Become a Horse Wrangler

As the Mission Camp Creek Wrangler, you will play a crucial role in providing a unique and enriching experience for campers through the care and management of our equestrian program. Your responsibilities include overseeing the well-being of horses, leading riding activities, and ensuring a safe and educational environment for campers interested in horsemanship.

The Role:

The Mission Camp Creek Lead Counselor is expected to bring enthusiasm and commitment to the camp's mission, creating an environment where campers thrive emotionally, socially, and personally. Your leadership should inspire a sense of community among campers and staff, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere. This role demands flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily care of horses, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring their health and well-being.

  • Provide clear and engaging riding instruction to campers, focusing on safety, skill development, and a love for horsemanship.

  • Ensure the proper maintenance of riding equipment, saddles, and other gear to guarantee a safe and functional equestrian program.

  • Enforce safety protocols during all horse-related activities, including mounting, dismounting, and riding sessions.

  • Oversee campers during riding sessions, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and providing positive and constructive feedback.

  • Work closely with other camp staff to integrate the equestrian program into the overall camp schedule and coordinate activities.

  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members regarding riding schedules, updates, and any concerns.

  • Must have the ability to physically manage and support children when needed for safety.

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks outdoor

  • Other jobs as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years

  • Have a general knowledge of horsemanship and care of livestock.

  • Relevant certifications in horsemanship, equine care, or riding instruction are highly desirable.

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in horseback riding techniques.

  • Experience caring for and riding horses.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision

  • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid and CPR

  • Applicant must complete a background check.
