A New Camp In Kansas!

Summer Camp is Open

Ken Scroggs and his family have built the foundations of a movement to offer kids with all abilities equal opportunities and incredible life experiences. This legacy began when the Scroggs family opened Hope Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center in Manhattan, Kansas. The Riding Center is a place for kids to come for regular lessons and experience what it’s like to ride horses in the Flint Hills—especially children with disabilities. Hope Ranch coined the motto “Inspire the Possible,” and have continued to live that out through the founding of a new Summer Camp in Topeka, Kansas; Mission Creek Camp.

Formerly Daisy Hindman Girl Scout Camp, Mission Creek is located in Shawnee County, in an area called Dover. The camp covers hundreds of acres and has trails that traverse hills, forests, a lake, and tall-grass fields. Upon visiting the camp, Ken and Cathy both said that their view was simply “breathtaking.”

As soon as the land was purchased, the Scroggs family got to work. Although some amenities were already in place at Mission Creek, there has been extensive building, reconstruction, and remodeling to create the place that the Scroggs family envisioned. Meticulous planning went in to figuring out how they would host waterfront activities, hiking, dining, outdoor sports, camping activities, and, of course, horseback riding. The camp will have available trained camp supervisors (counselors), medical staff, chef and kitchen crew to ensure the best experience for campers of all abilities.

Our goal is to provide a camp experience for those that have limited  availability for a camp experience.

After years of planning and work, Mission Creek Camp is open to enroll campers for Summer 2019! The first week of camp starts on June 9th, and runs throughout June and July. All kids and adults ages seven to 18 and up are invited to enroll for a week of camp. Camp enrollment supports a sliding scale price structure; giving scholarship to individuals with lower household income. There are also several promotions running to enable campers who might not otherwise get the chance to attend a Summer camp.

Ken and the rest of the Scroggs family sincerely hope that this camp will continue to foster a culture that offers equal opportunities to people with all abilities. More than the beautiful views and fun activities, their heart for helping kids is truly what makes Mission Creek an amazing place to be.
