Who We Are
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide individuals of all abilities with a camp experience that allows them to participate and grow in an environment that capitalizes on the possible, not the impossible. We encourage our campers to realize that everyone has abilities. We provide an inclusive camp experience that is designed for individuals with a wide range of physical, emotional, and cognitive diagnosed disabilities.
Our History
In 2006, a dream became a reality when Ken Scroggs and his 10-year-old daughter, Kassidy, opened the doors to Hope Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center in Manhattan, Kansas. A horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities started in a rented facility but has grown into a flourishing program in a 30,000 sq. ft. indoor arena on 35 acres in Riley County, Kansas. It is in the hearts of the Founder and Board of Directors to offer a place of safety, peace and learning to the individuals in our programs.
In August of 2018, Hope Ranch, Inc. acquired the Daisy Hindman Girl Scout Camp in Topeka, Kansas. Mission Creek Camp & Retreat Center had its first summer camp season in 2019. When the world was struck by pandemic in 2020, MCC remained patient and when the time came to do so, the doors were opened to small groups and retreats. The camp was thrilled to host its second summer season in 2022.
Our Facility
Mission Creek Camp & Retreat Center is a 187-acre facility located in the beautiful flint hills of Northeast Kansas in Shawnee County. We are located just minutes outside of Topeka and only an hour and a half west of Kansas City.
Our 5-acre lake, miles of hiking and horse trails, a splash park, sports field, horseback riding, playground, and archery range provide a perfect setting for an adventure filled camp experience.
